Quotation — Quotation – the value of a currency unit evaluated in another currency units. Let’s suppose the Euro-Dollar ( EUR/USD) exchange rate equals 1.4676. This means that 10 000 (ten thousand) Euro cost 14 676 (fourteen thousand six hundred seventy six) US Dollar. In this trade instrument Euro is a basic currency ("basic currency" glossary page reference) and Dollar is a quoted currency (sometimes it’s also called a counter currency). There are direct and reverse quotations. Direct quotation displays national currency amount which corresponds to a unit of foreign currency, for example: USD/JPY , USD/CHF, USD/CAD, USDNOK, USDSEK, USDZAR. Reverse quotation displays a foreign currency amount which corresponds to a unit of national currency, for example: EUR/USD, GBP/USD, AUD/USD, NZDUSD.
